AU-IPED Technical Mission to Strengthen EMIS in South Sudan
AU-IPED Technical Mission to Strengthen EMIS in South Sudan
From 16–18 March 2026, the African Union Pan-African Institute for Education for Development (AU-IPED) will lead a technical mission to Juba, South Sudan, to support the strengthening of the country’s Education Management Information System (EMIS). The mission is implemented under the Global Partnership for Education Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (GPE KIX) programme, supported by GPE and IDRC, which promotes knowledge sharing and innovation to strengthen education systems across Africa.
The mission responds to a request from the Ministry of General Education and Instruction of South Sudan and aims to enhance the country’s capacity to collect, manage, and use education data for evidence-based planning and decision-making. Reliable education data is critical for monitoring national education sector plans and advancing continental and global commitments, including CESA and SDG 4.
Over the three-day engagement, AU-IPED and KIX partners will conduct technical consultations, an EMIS systems assessment, and targeted capacity-building sessions for data management officers. Discussions will focus on strengthening EMIS governance, improving data quality and workflows, and identifying priority areas for system improvement.
The mission is expected to produce technical recommendations for strengthening South Sudan’s national EMIS, while also fostering stronger collaboration between AU-IPED, KIX partners, and the Ministry. Ultimately, the initiative contributes to building more robust education data systems that enable effective policy, planning, and accountability across the education sector.
