4th Edition of the KIX Continental Symposium on Research and Innovation in Education in Africa 2025
Date: December 3 2025 - December 5 2025
Location: Senegal/Zoom
KIX Africa 19 and KIX Africa 21 are co-organizing the fourth edition of the KIX Continental Symposium on Education Research in Africa 2025.
The fourth KIX continental symposium will take place from December 3 to 5, 2025, in person and online, at the Riu Baobab Hotel, Thiès, Senegal, for GPE KIX focal points, ministries of educations, researchers, academics, teacher representative organizations, and development agencies in sub-Saharan Africa. Live streaming will be available on Zoom, allowing more participants to join the event.
With the theme “Professional development of teachers in sub-Saharan Africa in the age of artificial intelligence: challenges and prospects for educational research,” the symposium has the following objectives:
Analyze the current and potential effects of AI on the professional development of teaching staff in sub-Saharan Africa, with a focus on local realities, digital inequalities, and opportunities for contextual innovation.
Explore the transformations brought about by AI in educational practices, particularly in teaching, learning, and assessment, and identify the conditions necessary for ethical, equitable, and culturally appropriate integration.
Identify the structural, pedagogical, socio-technical, and policy challenges that hinder the effective adoption of AI in teacher training and practices, with a particular focus on rural areas, vulnerable groups, and algorithmic biases.
Highlight local initiatives, innovative practices, and endogenous solutions in educational AI, led by African teachers, researchers, startups, or institutions, and draw lessons for public education policies.
Encourage collaborative reflection on the political and ethical frameworks necessary for the development of African educational AI that is inclusive, respectful of linguistic and cultural diversity, and capable of strengthening the continent's digital sovereignty.
Strengthen the production and circulation of African scientific knowledge on AI in education by promoting action research, local publications, and African datasets.
Strengthen the space for dialogue between policy makers, researchers, practitioners, and technical partners to encourage the co-construction of an African AI education policy based on evidence and realities on the ground.
